Graduation Record Examination

The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is a standardised test widely recognised by universities in the US, Canada, UK, Europe, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand and Germany for admission to their Masters programs including business and law programs and even PhD. Administered by Educational Testing Services (ETS), the GRE comprises both Subject tests and the General Test.

The GRE General Test syllabus encompasses five sections measuring verbal reasoning (2 sections), quantitative reasoning (2 sections), and analytical writing skills (AWA). Notably, the exam is adaptive by section, meaning the difficulty level adjusts based on performance. The initial Math/Verbal section includes a mix of easy, medium, and hard questions. Subsequent sections are determined by the number of correct answers in the first section, leading to a harder, medium, or easy section. The total duration of the GRE exam is 1 hour and 58 minutes.

The Quantitative Reasoning and Verbal Reasoning sections are each scored on a scale of 130 to 170 in 1-point increments. The combined score is in the range of 260-340. The Analytical Writing Assessment is scored from 0 to 6 in half-point increments. The validity of the GRE score is 5 years.
